Distracted Driving

TEXTING ...is an awesome technological advancement. Unfortunately, some people make the emotional decision to text while driving, instead of the logical decision to wait or pull over. A texting driver creates a crash risk 23 times higher than an undistracted driver, according to the USDOT. Combine that statistic with the fact that CMV’s regularly transport loads up to 80,000 pounds, and you’ve got a recipe for some serious damage and stiff fines.

But texting isn’t the only activity that distracts CMV drivers. Talking on the phone, watching video’s, eating, reading, adjusting the radio…all of these activities can lead to lost lives, property damage, equipment damage, and decreased revenue for trucking companies and their drivers. The fine to a company that employs a texting driver is $11,000. The driver could pay as much as $2,750.

CDL College has a Distracted Driving Course that will better prepare your drivers (especially newbies!) to be as safe as they can be while driving for your company. The course is significantly less than $11,000. Our Distracted Driving Course can be taken online, or in our classroom at CDL College.
